One of the best ways to teach young children is to relate topics to experiences they know. Topics such as "family" and "where we live" are a wonderful way to relate to the children in your class. Children of multiple developmental levels can express themselves in a variety of ways using the materials I chose for this project. These materials are very broad and open ended so it allows the teachers in the room to play with children in a variety of ways: teachers can label materials and activities to help foster language development; they can teach play skills; they can learn about family members and routines that the different children engage in. While the main tool is a "house" it can be used for children that live in a tradition house, an apartment; a condo, a shelter, and can be adapted to help teach social and emotional development to children who are dealing with housing instability. The auxiliary materials such as the furniture and families can be individualized for each child in the classroom. These additional materials help to enrich each child's experiences in the dollhouse.
