I am teaching AP Human Geography for the first time! I want to prepare my 9th graders for success in high school and (possibly their first) rigorous AP class! Usually when I ask students to bring their own supplies at the beginning of the year, I tend to get a mixed number of students doing so. For this reason, I want to start the year by providing each student with their basic needs (binder, dividers, maps, colored paper to label the binders by class color, etc.) to make sure they have equitable access to resources, right from the first day of school. I will not be using a specific textbook but instead using a variety of resources online in order to give students various perspectives about what they are learning. However, my school has limited use of color printing or copying, and in my previous years, I have felt that my students are at a disadvantage when they have to look at maps that are printed in black and white. Thus, I ask for a color laser printer and toner in order to be able to provide students with information that is visually accessible and useful to help them understand the concepts taught in class. Lastly, the other supplies on the list helps me manage my classroom structures. The 9 cube organizer will be used for school supplies that the students can access. The laminator and laminating pouches will help me maintain the quality of my materials over time. The plastic desk organizer tray, the paper organizer bins, and the bookshelf will help with organization and classroom structures. And the mini whiteboards will be used for class engagement and participation activities in groups! Thank you for reading!
