The Mongoose has wreaked havoc on Hawaii’s ecosystem starting in 1883 to control a rat problem; however, their introduction caused many native Hawaiian species to become endangered. These cute yet vicious animals will forever shape our ecosystem, and our students will see the effects first hand. Students will be to observe how mongoose interact with native plants and animals in Hawaii's ecosystem. We will support our students by modeling how to use the camera and showing them phenomena that were observed with this piece of equipment. The camera trap is something students will automatically be engaged in and willing to use as the 21st century student is technologically savvy. This tool will motivate them in developing their science fair projects and hopefully get them to commit to creating their own investigations and experiments. It will also allow them to investigate night life that would normally be difficult to capture with the naked eye.
