I have wanted to update our class reading list for quite some time - our curriculum is not very diverse, and it would be amazing to get class sets of books that broadened our horizons, rather than teaching the same outdated books and getting the same unenthusiastic results. I am super excited to add these three books as class sets for the incoming Freshmen who will benefit from reading "Just Mercy" in place of "To Kill a Mockingbird." We can even compare the two and discuss how "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a product of its time. Providing class sets of books that address antiracism, inclusion, diversity, tolerance, and a "growth mindset" is critically important at this time, and I believe that these books will create positive ripples that can help improve our society as a whole. I sincerely hope that you will be a part of the change we all wish to see in our world.
