Due to Covid-19's aerosol transmission, many students do not feel as safe making music in a transitional band/choir ensemble. The safest music environment is with strings and percussion. Therefore I plan to use these instruments with my students to engage in a rock band medium. Through this medium, I can continue to teach my students about music and can also provide performance opportunities for them that do not include aerosolization. Students will engage in an informal learning process that supports both musicianship and autonomy, one of the fundamental components of basic human needs. Because high school students have bigger/more developed hands, I selected tenor 'ukuleles and acoustic guitars.
