My students are growing up in a difficult time. The climate is struggling, their lives have been rocked by a worldwide pandemic. They are seeing the political structure of the United States government fight among themselves. Students in my art class will be studying artists who focus on environmental and social justice. They will learn about artists doing the real work today and throughout history. With these canvases, paints and brushes, students will use their voices to create paintings for change and work on their presentation skills to share their work with the class. As a part of this unit, students will also research an artist of choice and teach the class about their influence. Finally, students will work on their positive critiquing skills by helping on another improve their work.
