The language of dance is universal. It binds together peoples from all walks of life and creates a sense of community and belonging. It is powerful in that regard. But that is not all dance can do. Dance also has the power to calm the mind and center the spirit - allowing the dancer to find an inner strength and peace that sets him or her on a journey toward true mind-body integration. My incredible middle school dancers are on such a journey. They are not content to just learn technical steps and grow their artistry. They want to become fully well rounded dancers who consistently engage in an established mind-body practice. The supplies chosen will help them do this by providing them the materials needed to not only start but maintain a weekly Yoga and basic Pilates practice. Currently, we do not have enough resources for all of them to be able to do this as a whole class. These supplies would allow us to practice and engage as a whole class, thus strengthening our community from the inside out and ultimately making them the fully well rounded dancers they so desperately are striving to become.
