Every student wants to feel that they matter in school. They want to see themselves in the books they read. They want to be able to draw themselves and their family using colors that closely resemble their skin tone. They want an area for themselves that allows them to take a break from daily stressors. These are the reasons why I would like to create an area in my classroom to allow them to do all those things. Wobble cushions will allow my students to read and do their work in comfort. Books that feature characters of different cultures and genders, crayons and colored pencils that emphasize different skin tones will show that every student belongs in our classroom despite his or her background.
