I will be teaching Juniors and Seniors in an African American literature class. One of the biggest discussions that we will have throughout the year is thinking about how we can create more positive narratives to change the way that African American people are represented. Wether that be in the media, in cartoons and television, in sports, in health and other fields, etc. Along with those discussions, throughout the year, students will create 2 films with a group of their peers about these topics and more, and one of those films will be presented to the school community and their parents as we host a film festival to showcase the amazing work that students had been doing through out the year! The iPads would of course help to create and edit the film as we do not have the resources otherwise, being a low income school. This will empower my students, while also bringing the community together for positive reasons!
