All too often students are told to sit still, stop fidgeting, stay focused and be quiet. Junior high students in particular have a lot of energy and so will have a difficult time following those types of rules. I want to create a room where students look forward to coming into each day. If students feel comfortable in the classroom because their anxiety and stress levels are lowered, they will perform better and truly become super scholars. The kick bands will allow them to release pent-up energy while they are still engaged in the lesson material. It will let them have a sense of movement even if they have to sit to perform tasks such as reading and test taking. The bands will also help by allowing students that have a need to fidget a quiet and non-distracting to release energy. And, students with shorter legs will appreciate a foot rest instead of having their legs dangle all class. The light filters also help by eliminating the glare from the overhead fluorescent lights. Reducing glare will reduce eye strain and fatigue for students, allowing them to feel more comfortable in the room.
