The main goal of this class is to provide early intervention and develop the young learners their social and emotional development as well as their language skills. The manipulative items, art materials and pretend toys in the project will give the opportunity for the learners to use them during center rotation. The purpose of the manipulative items is to develop their fine motor skills. On the other hand, art supplies and sensory items are also beneficial for the 3 year olds to discover, explore and try to make sense of the world around them. Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through ‘sensory play’ is crucial to brain development – it helps to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways. This leads to a child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills. In early childhood development, play is also a vital component for their growth. When young learners are engaged in pretend play, they tend to be more creative and imaginative. This is to develop their overall well-being, especially their social and emotional needs while they play with their peers. This also benefits their physical and language development as during pretend play, it allows them to express themselves in a verbal and non-verbal way. Essentially, pretend play in preschool helps children to build skills that are crucial for many areas of their development.
