We are asking for a chameleon. My students will learn important values like compassion, empathy, respect, and responsibility for other living things. Studies have shown that integrating a classroom pet can help build self-esteem, alleviate anxiety, and reduce stress in students. With this pet, students will also learn about a chameleon's habitat, ecosystem, adaptations, food chain & food webs. Students will have the opportunity to research what foods and necessities the animal needs to survive and thrive. It will be their job to maintain and clean the habitat when it is required to make sure the chameleon has a safe and clean environment. Helping my students develop these skills will help them become more responsible students and adults. The students will have to research how to set up the terrarium, lights and heaters. Using a thermometer will be important to keep the terrarium at the optimal heat. They will also need to learn about the chameleons need for misting and places to climb.
