Education in my classroom starts with the students. This project will first be dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable learning environment. Cabinets are cracked, tile is rusted, and sinks are out of order. Life at home may also not feel safe or comfortable. The only thing I want them to focus on is learning. When they start in two weeks I want that feeling of relief to come over them. One of the 8th grade teachers told me "They loved coming to my classroom because it was decorated" These learners are desperate for a place to call home. If home is not an option, my classroom always is! As educators say "Maslow (needs) before Bloom (learning)". These students deserve a classroom that feels good to step into! A world where their needs come first. I just use science to connect with them.
