One of the students in my class came and asked for the \"6 Social Skills Game\" to play with a peer. Journaling has allowed students to open up in a new way. Not only have they opened up regarding how they are processing through things in the moment, but they have also increased communication/social skills with staff as they ask for help. This act of journaling has opened many new social opportunities within our classroom. \r\n\r\nThe timer has been a game changer. I have several students that benefit from it as we are able to set timers for a variety of classroom expectations. Students have shown increased cooperation in regard to transitioning within the classroom as well as participation in classwork. The timer allows them to see how much time they have to complete something as well as providing an end time. We've seen increased participation from students who otherwise would not engage with lessons because it was a non preferred activity. Now, being able to see a start/stop point they are participating in new ways and thus growing their skills.
