After a year of distance learning on computers at home, I want to get students excited about writing again! I envision a space in my classroom where students can work using paper and hand-held writing instruments (pencils and pens) to express their thoughts and ideas. The materials I am requesting will be available at this writing center for students to use as they explore the writing process and eventually become published authors. They will have access to a class library at the writing center, which will contain grade level literature to inspire their creativity. Dry erase pens and pockets will allow for brainstorming activities using different graphic organizers, and various types of blank booklets can be used for their final projects. Students can also create their own books using construction paper and plain white paper. Various types of art supplies will also give students an opportunity to enhance their writing pieces through visual artwork. They will be able to illustrate with markers and crayons, paint with watercolors, and cut out designs using construction paper to complete their work.
My goal is to develop an appreciation and love of writing in all of my students through this creative writing center! I hope it will be a safe and fun space for them to express themselves, and create pieces they are proud of!
