Throughout the school year our 4th graders are given weekly opportunities to participate in science lessons that allow them to physically manipulate and use a variety of tools and resources to experiment, discover and gain new scientific understandings. The students design and engineer structures to create chain reactions. They create the lens and retina of the eye to understand how vision works. They use a nylon sock filled with smashed up food and vinegar to simulate the digestive system and they use the force of magnetism to paint and move model vehicles without touching them. They ask questions. They collaborate. They discover and they are 100% engaged in the learning process. Virtual learning students are provided the tools they need to conduct the experiments at home.
