My students have varying academic needs, and this is true even more after a year and a half of varying school experiences. In order to provide my students instruction at their individual levels, small group instruction (RTI time), is an important part of our day. During small group time students needing additional academic support have a chance to work in a small group with peers with similar needs on content that is right at their level. This time is so important not only to help them work towards their individual academic goals. A kidney table will allow me to work directly in front of each student and provide individualized feedback and attention with ease. This feedback and individualized support is an integral part of helping students. The easel will allow me to present the lesson to them at the table. Currently I hold a hand held whiteboard that is difficult for students across my current rectangle table to see. Lastly, the wobble chairs will make the area more comfortable for students. Some of the students needing additional support also have attention or behavioral issues, and the wobble chairs allow students to get their energy out and feel comfortable during this focused instructional time. A new home for small group instruction will make the learning experience for students more effective due to being able to see and hear all instruction, get individualized feedback and help, and allow them to subtly release their energy when necessary.
