These books will help build a classroom library that is representative of all students and their unique diversities. Books are great resources for teaching young students about diversity, as they are engaging and age appropriate. Reading and discussing these books with students lead to meaningful conversations about how they saw themselves represented and what they learned about others from the story. Exposing children to diversity in children's literature fosters understanding and empathy towards others. Through these read alouds, students will be given opportunities to see what life is like for others and be encouraged to always choose kindness. The books I have chosen for this project will represent the diversity of children in my class through a variety of families, races, backgrounds, and needs. I look forward to reading these books with my students and teaching them at an early age that our differences should be respected and celebrated!
