This rug will be the main seating area in the music classroom. It will improve classroom management and enable us to focus on making music. The rainbow rug will help me get to know students’ names by enabling me to make seating charts, which will foster good rapport. Using the rug as the basis of our enter and exit procedures will also improve classroom management. We can use the rug to help younger students quickly move to a “circle” shape for many singing games. We can also utilize the rows for quick instrument sharing. For example, students can pass instruments to the person in the row behind them. Additionally, I can also use the rows on the rug to assign groups of students certain instrument/vocal roles or tasks. For example, “The red row will play the hand drums while the yellow row pats a steady beat.” The possibilities are endless!
