Central HS is launching a Mental Health Mondays campaign to teach students how to practice better self-care. One way I cope with anxiety and stress is by staying busy making things that are useful, beautiful and personal to me. I started sewing and crocheting over the past year and I want to teach students how to use crafting as a tool for self-care. Crafting is therapy! Teenagers need access to activities (that are not electronic) to stimulate their minds and enhance their lives. Crocheting and sewing are not just crafts, they can develop into valuable life skills. Yarn and a crochet needle or canvas are relatively inexpensive, so the craft is accessible to kids with lower family incomes as well.
