As schools fully reopen, in September, while COVID-19 cases are still rising, it is crucial that I create a therapeutic safe space to provide counseling services for students. Starting our first social-emotional library, I will be able to assist students in making connections, learning how to identify and cope with their feelings and create a therapeutic counseling environment in order to foster independent thinking and learning. These social-emotional books will provide an opportunity for my students to focus on their mental health and expand their knowledge. Moreover, it will encourage them to participate in individual and group counseling sessions in a positive, safe, and therapeutic environment. These books will allow the students to process their academic struggles, family/home environment concerns and social-emotional difficulties such as anxiety, ADHD, ODD, depression, bullying, mindfulness and adjustment disorders.
