Having the financial support to create digital prints would give students a hands-on experience. Students will learn new skills and be able to: create digital prints, create digital negatives, create alternative process prints (these are prints that start as a digital image, are printed as a digital negative, then contact printed on a piece of watercolor paper using light-sensitive chemicals and finally developed in water). Students will have new opportunities to experiment with and expand their creativity through altering their printed imagery. Printed works would open the door for more discussions and student lead critiques. Students will be able to hold their own prints and begin to think about their work as a physical piece of art in the world, where they see it existing, and how they see it installed. This will help my students grow and develop their photographic skills as well as strengthen their conceptual understanding and intentions behind their work. Having printed artwork would create an opportunity for students to show off their accomplishments in School Art Shows and art shows outside of school. Students would be able to create a physical portfolio or book of their work to use for future college or job opportunities and to look back on as an achievement. Please consider a financial contribution toward creating an Alternative Process Darkroom so my students may experience the magic of growing and learning through a more hands-on approach to creating photographic works of art.
