Many middle school students lose their love for school, and I feel this is often do to tedious paper and pencil lessons, with worksheets being the only assessment tool. I am requesting glue sticks, Crayola markers and colored pencils, highlighters, storage organizers and Sharpies. Artistic projects engage students in learning and applying knowledge, in a colorful, creative manner! As an English and Social Studies teacher, I am able to provide my students with fun projects such as: designing an amusement park and creating their own continent to apply mapping skills. I also teach my students vocabulary by using Greek and Latin Roots Sketch Notes. All of these activities require markers, colored pencils, and of course, Sharpies. Highlighting is an effective way for students to reinforce reading comprehension strategies (i.e. highlight the main idea) and writing skills (i.e. highlight the topic sentence). With a Masters in Arts in Education, I incorporate art in my classroom as much as possible. Thank you for helping my students start out the school year with needed art supplies!
