One way our classroom is building community this year is by focusing on our identity work. We plan to use self-portraits as one means of developing and growing in our identity work. These materials are intended to supplement what we have so that we can provide our students with a broader range of materials to represent themselves.
Art is a beautiful form of self-expression which can allow us to explore our identities. Students will be able to use the self-portrait mirrors to focus in on their unique features when drawing with their choice of crayons, markers, pencils and papers.
We want our young students to explore various mediums, and we will be able to have students create their own paint colors to represents themselves. The paint will be stored in the jars and labeled with their name as the paint color. These jars will be available for them to paint pictures of themselves and each other.
We also want to explore self-portraits through collage. The addition of patterned paper will supplement our collage materials supplies.
We are so looking forward to watching our students grow and learn about their identities as well as that of each member of our community.
