Learners will strengthen their school community and connections with the local neighborhood through a school garden and outdoor classroom. The garden and outdoor spaces will allow students to learn about the growing cycle, science, healthy eating, and connections between class content and the world they live in. Students will also practice responsibility and improve their self-confidence and emotional well-being as they see their hard work flourish into beautiful flowers and food they can enjoy and share. The tools requested will enable students to plant vegetables and native perennials, weed their garden, and harvest delicious vegetables. With these tools, learners will not only develop and grow beautiful plants and food, but also their knowledge, self-confidence, and enjoyment of the outdoors and their community. I will be bringing in community guest speakers to help guide learners on their journey into cultivating their own gardens. The excitement and interest from students is driving this work, but we need the tools to offer this opportunity to our creative, hard working, and eager middle school students.
