I am planning on using the high top tables and stools as flexible seating in my classroom space. The tables will be placed in the back of my classroom to allow for students to stand during lessons or to have a break from the traditional desks, which are extremely uncomfortable. This will give my middle schoolers a chance to get their wiggles out in a way that will keep individuals focused, while not disturbing their peers. Collaboration is key in my classroom. This collaboration and communication is necessary in both my Spanish Immersion and 8th Grade Spanish I classes. Having students grouped by seating arrangement allows for quick and meaningful collaborations to occur on a regular basis throughout my lessons. I will also use the high top tables for stations that students will rotate through in their communication activities. Finally, I plan to use the bungee cords and pool noodles for a DIY project on my traditional desks remaining in the classroom. I will use them to create foot bouncers for my fidgety students to remain their focus, lower anxiety, and increase attention during language lessons. I am really excited about these changes to my classroom and believe the flexibility in use of space will help my students reach their high goals of language acquisition.
