My students come from a world of poverty where there is not only a lack of basic understanding and a tremendous gap in education, but the desire to learn is far from innate. The citywide expectations, rigorous standards, and state testing do not take into consideration the everyday struggles and disabilities of my students. My students, their disabilities, and their capabilities are extraordinary. Although they may climb the ladder at a different speed than other students, they can and will reach their highest potential and achieve greatness. To be given a chance is to be given a choice. Although I have and will continue to give my students all the resources they need, a NYC school teacher’s resources are limited and we need your help. I currently have two desktops in my classroom and the math program has a built-in digital piece that would strengthen my student’s ability to learn, captivate their interests, and be the drive that sparks a love for learning.
