The class sets of books--Just Mercy and Unwind--will be used for whole-class novel studies. Both of these books speak to identity, which is an area many students, particularly high school students, struggle with. The remainder of the books offer a wide variety of genres for my diverse student population. There are graphic novels as well as many popular young adult novels. These will bolster my classroom library and provide students with many choices. As students engage with books that interest them, their literacy increases and their passion for books grows.
