We are requesting book. I do independent reading time with my students on a regular basis. It gives them choice and voice in what they read, which gets them "into" reading because they can read what they enjoy. It also opens their minds to new knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that they would never encounter otherwise, leaving them well-rounded and empathetic. Independent reading provides students with time to engage in the world of a story simply to enjoy it and grow their own character as a result of their encounter with the story. Providing a space for meaningful and magical reading in my classroom will transform the independent reading experience for my students. The books will give my students a wide variety of stories to choose from, and the seating options will give them a welcoming and comfortable way to enjoy the stories; both these forms of options will give my students opportunities to develop their unique personalities and behaviors. These independent reading opportunities will ignite a love for reading in my students that will hopefully last their whole lives.
