In order for students to grow as readers, they need to read a wide variety of books to choose from. In fourth grade most of the students are able to read on their own and they are exploring the different genres. Providing these students with different genres and characters to choose from allows them to find their passion in reading. This is an important grade for reading because they are exposing themselves to more challenging words to decode and understand, more mature themes to figure out, and longer texts that students will need to develop stamina in order to complete and comprehend the book. Additionally, they are developing important skills that they will need throughout their entire education. Every classroom needs books, yet most classrooms don't receive the proper funding to bring in the amount of books that students need. My students will be participating in the 40 Book Challenge where they will be challenged to read 40 books in the entire school year. They need a lot of options in order to motivate them to keep reading throughout the year. Please help us achieve this goal!
