My classroom is set up with 8 groups of 4. I don't want a class where I lecture all the time. I want my students to have options to a variety of activities to get them moving. To give them practice in areas they struggle with. To allow choice so they don't get bored. Math can be fun and I love creating games that entertain and teach. With the markers, paper, and erasers, we will be able to play team whiteboards, where they work together with a partner or team, to answer certain questions on a small whiteboard. I have larger whiteboards on the walls around the classroom where the students can get up and spread out to play Around the World. With these items I can create stations where groups can move every 10-15 minutes, practicing and having fun with the laminated flash cards, dice, Yahtzee, battle ship, and other games and activities. They can create posters and lessons of their own to teach each other, to decorate our classroom, to create something they can be proud of. The plants are to make the classroom more comfortable. With options to a variety of activities and tools my students will not only not dread going to math class, but actually, look forward to it, getting practice and repetition of the math skills and concepts. I want them to experience the excitement and joy when some difficult math concept clicks and makes sense to them.
