The book, Concrete Rose, will appeal to the students because it relates to them. They will read a story about character, resilience, and possibility. With these supplies, students can read and relate to a powerful novel that is different from the “norm.” Students will find themselves in this novel and draw connections to themselves and their community. They will read, annotate, reflect, and write about the material. Students also will have the writing tools to complete the work that will be assigned with the reading. Students will use the writing tools to annotate, answer discussion questions, and write about the material.
