With the twentieth anniversary of September 11th taking place this year, these novels will help my students, who were not even born yet, gain insight into the mind of a young child on the day of 9/11. Not only will they get an American child's perspective, but they will also gain an Afghan child's as well. It is my desire to build a generation of students who do not forget our history, but who also learn to empathize with those who on the surface may seem very different from themselves. Besides being an excellent novel, this donation will provide each student the opportunity to experience a brand-new book in hand. After a year of being forced to do everything electronically, I know it will be refreshing and exciting for them. Many of our current novels are older and worn, and they are outdated texts that many students struggle to engage with. However, Alan Kratz's, "Ground Zero," is a 2021 novel that immediately rose to the top of the New York Times bestsellers. It blends our past with our future and will hopefully spark both a love of history and literature for our students.
