Lacking strong foundational literacy skills, my students struggle to grasp grade-level content. My project focuses on building that foundation with word work activities. Each requested material was selected to target the most common skill deficits of my students. Using the materials requested will involve the students in working with blends, syllables, word families, and affixes. The activities are suitable for learners of varying abilities, which will allow for use with all of my students. The materials I chose for my project will allow my students to participate in motivational, hands-on, small group activities. Small group instruction, focusing on filling in the missing pieces, is one of the most effective methods for supporting my students.
