The goal of this project is two-fold. On one level, it is simply to give students a durable dedicated notebook that is just for their writing. The other part is to strike a better balance between writing for assignments and writing for self-expression. Their journal will give them a safe place for daily experimentation with ideas without concern for formula or grades. This regular practice will help them generate ideas and gain confidence as writers. This, in turn, will benefit them not only in my class, but in other courses as well. Writing is an essential skill in both college and the workplace, and even more important is the ability to express creativity and independent thought. Thank you for your kindness.
