I was in awe to see how quickly part 1 of this project was funded, and it showed me how much my community values the social emotional wellness of our youth. In addition to teaching High School English and Social Studies, I am a practitioner of yoga and a mindfulness enthusiast. Meditation and yoga have brought so much peace and strength into my life. It has helped me to focus and grow as an individual and as a professional. I want to take the Breathe for Change 200-hour Wellness, SEL and Yoga Teacher Training to bring these same tools to my classroom and my school. I will be able to bring trauma-informed yoga classes to our students, utilize mindfulness practices in our classroom, and provide students with autonomy over their own well-being. These skills are healthy for mind and body, and I believe we need to provide our young adults with more opportunities to develop their mindfulness. Emotional well-being, especially following the last year and a half, needs to be the focus for our students. This training will give me the tools necessary to fully embrace this focus. I cannot wait to get started on this journey!
