This will be an Immersion Week, where students can spend time creating or exploring something outside of our usual classroom curriculum. I wanted to involve local businesses and allow students to enjoy the snow at a local ski resort, while allowing students to engineer something they can use to enjoy outdoor winter activity. During this week, students will meet with experts, tour two snowboard and ski factories, and then apply their knowledge to build a snow toy of their choice. I've researched materials, and secured donations from local hardware stores for the wood core. The supplies I've requested here will be just what we need to finish our boards, protect them from the elements, and create unique designs. These resources are needed for students to apply their new ideas and put the principles of engineering into practice using the design cycle. We'll collaborate together and develop expertise in this hands on building experience, as we create a one of a kind snow toy.
