As students have returned to the classroom after the pandemic, it is apparent the various levels of learning that occurred within the home. Some students have come to school at grade level and taking off in their learning, while others are unable to hold a pencil or crayon and have not been exposed to any preschool concepts.
The materials I have included in this project will allow me to differentiate learning while students are at station work in mathematics and in literacy.
I have included specific items such as pencil grips, phonics and sight word tools, as well as counting tools for emergent math learners and higher level math learners. I have always differentiated instruction, but due to the various experiences that students had during the pandemic, differentiation is more necessary than ever within the classroom in order to promote engagement for all students. These tools will then be able to be used by students in the years to come. This project will assist in phonics and sight word instruction, as well as counting, cardinality, and building number sense in mathematics.
