Guided reading is an evidence-based reading intervention that teaches students strategies for reading and comprehending text. Guided reading occurs in a small group setting in which the teacher is able to direct the student with text on their reading level, among peers at the same level. During guided reading, students participate in group reading and make observations, conclusions and predictions about the text. They are also able to apply strategies that they have learned in their Core Language Arts (CKLA) classes when reading. My students are not allowed to check out library books and bring them home to read. Instead, we must share resources as a school. If we had our own class copy, I would be able to reduce the amount of time printing, cutting and assembling books from online resources or time in the library scanning through books to select a class set week to week. This would also allow students to spend more time with books in their hands and take the books home.
