Social Emotional Learning is finally receiving the attention that it needs in the elementary classrooms especially over the last year with COVID. I truly believe that when you put SEL as an integral part in educating children and embed it into all parts of the academic day you foster the continuous development of the whole child. With the bearded dragon tank supplies I will be able to create an SEL and learning habitat within our school for over 700 students to earn time caring for and learning with 2 Therapy Bearded Dragons. Through a Positive Behavior Support School-wide system all students will get to earn the time with the dragons creating a collaborative learning environment where students WANT to follow expectations to earn their time with the dragons. Classrooms will also have an opportunity to adopt a dragon to help feed it daily. With this type of SEL instruction taking place throughout or school I know that my students' behavior will decrease, while their academic achievement increases. Helping my students now develop these skills, will help them become more responsible students and adults.
