"We are going to watch a video of someone else doing this experiment." I find myself saying this sentence all too often. We don't have the materials for a wide variety of science lessons, so I end up finding a video of someone else doing it; not nearly as impactful as doing it yourself. With a handful of simple materials, science can come to life. It may not look like much, but string, cups, pipe cleaners, batteries, and light bulbs can really transform a classroom. This year, I want to organize my classroom for scientists. Having materials easily accessible to them should help them find creative solutions to their problems. With only a short amount of time to learn each day, I want to put the learning on my students. They are more than capable of finding solutions to their problems, and putting the materials in their hands will help with that. It's really all about the feel of the classroom. With maps, reference posters, and other decorations to showcase their work, they can make something in class to be proud of.
