So many of my students struggle with maintaining attention because they cannot stop moving. Now with the COVID restrictions I am forced to put my students in rows instead of small groups. With my students already struggling with coming back to the classroom after being at home and sitting on their couches, beds, etc., during class time, this is hard for them. I want my students to have fun and maintain their attention by giving them a variety of flexible seating options. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning environment by allowing them to wobble, rock, bounce, etc. All of these movements increase oxygen flow to the brain which keeps their minds alert and focused. It can be so difficult for students with learning disabilities and ADHD to sit for 90 minutes for 4 class periods a day. I just know they will get excited to come to school, engage with each other and get all of those COIVD wiggles out with these amazing flexible seating options! I also want my students to start engaging with each other again without their phones. I pride myself in giving my students free time because I know lecturing for the whole class period (90 minutes) can really affect their stamina for completing assignments. That is why during free time I want to boost their brain power by giving them the option of using these fun and engaging math puzzles. Manipulatives are so great for teaching special education because it caters to the students' variety of needs. These math puzzles will help me light that spark in my students again and get them excited about learning math.
