Not only are these books contemporary and fast-paced, they are also relevant to the lives of our students. Bringing these books into the classroom and allowing the students to choose from a diverse collection will not only encourage reading, but it will also encourage conversation. After a year and a half in isolation, teens need ongoing, in-person, focused conversations with their peers. Through providing multiple copies of these titles, students will form literature circles in which they discuss the many issues raised and the relevance the books have in their own lives.
