As a second-year teacher after a pandemic, my goal is to create an inviting environment for my students that haven't been on a school campus for over a year. Normally my students would have had a year to adjust to the differences that come with moving to middle school, but unfortunately, most of them missed that. Virtual learning was so different and created gaps in what a 6th grader normally experiences. I will be moving up with my students from last year into 7th grade, and hope that a familiar face will offer them encouragement. Creating an inviting classroom is the first step in many towards building relationships with my students. A bland classroom with blank walls can make a room seem clinical and not a place where students can feel comfortable. With these materials, I can go above and beyond and create a secondary home for my students.
