I would like to have space inside of the classroom where students can sit and be comfortable. In the 2nd grade, we spend a lot of time doing whole group lessons. Having this carpet and other flexible seating throughout the classroom can allow my students to have a place to come and sit instead of just sitting at their desks. Reasearch shows that flexible seating increases student engagement which increases students grades. Since these students have been spending time at home due to the pandemic I want them to be able to come to my classroom where they are excited to learn every day. This rug will make carpet time more comfortable for students. I want to use this rug and these seats for instructional time but also to build a community inside of the classroom.
