According to current research, learning to read is a science. I am organizing small group instruction areas in my classroom that will include student supplies to facilitate learning (kleenslate dry erase boards, dry erase markers, magnetic letters, student baskets, supply caddys, write-on sleeves, etc). In addition, I am organizing my instructional materials into binders for easy access and identification. I want to make this area clean and uncluttered; an "I'm ready to learn" environment. My students will be able to practice explicit, targeted phonemic and phonics skills in a small group setting, which is more successful than learning in a whole group environment.
