As an OEK (Optional Extended Kindergarten) teacher for the lowest scoring students coming into Kindergarten, I have found that learning exercises involving tangible tools promote knowledge retention; involving multiple senses ensures that students learn both theory and practical use simultaneously. One example of this teaching technique is using games to introduce principles. Games encourage interaction with the material, and because the students enjoy them, they are guaranteed to stay engaged throughout the learning process. The reading skills centers, sorting boards, BuildAWord boards, and other materials I chose will make learning from home easier because they allow maximum interaction with the teacher despite remote learning, and ensure that students remain on-task. Plus the exercises are simple enough that students of any level can easily follow along.
