The reason behind the books is that it has been proven that students who read independently show growth in vocabulary, reading comprehension, verbal fluency, and general information. With COVID this is more important than ever with students having missed reading during the school closure and different learning models that they have gone through during their first year in the secondary level. I created a book reading contest in my classroom for the students to be engaged in reading and thus have growth in all areas. One of my mottos in my classroom is for my students to always try their best and they demonstrate that to me every day! I know that they love to read and that getting a book that is theirs would mean the world to them!
