eSports is a competitive gaming program that provides students from diverse backgrounds and skill sets the opportunity to come together, work as a team, and to compete against one another through a gaming experience. eSport games such as Animal Crossing bolsters Next Generation Science Standards, builds math skills by applying mathematical theories and formulas to calculate gaming strategies which provides students the opportunity to become more tech literate and strengthen their scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills. Additionally, an eSports program gives students the opportunity to socialize, foster relationships, and build a sense of community within the school while learning about and celebrating other students’ various skills, cultures and diversity. Being excited about participating in a program like eSports, leads students to care about their school which means they will have increased confidence, greater engagement and achievement in school with better attendance.
