These novels will allow for students to enhance their learning and the diversity in literature available to them. The students in my classes are low level readers. Most literature at their academic level is for the very young and very little of it has the diversity we want to expose all learners to. Class sets of novels will allow for structure and a safe place to have those important conversations around relevant topics taking place in our country right now. Each student should have diverse literature exposure they will be able to connect with on a personal level. Novels will be rotated through as the students spend their 6-8 grade years with me. I will also be sharing novels with my special education department. Exposure to a variety of literature will help students find a love for reading in both genres and authors they may have not otherwise been exposed to. My desire is to find a way to tap into their thinking and understanding of all the amazing people who make up this great world we live in.
